Daenarys (Game of Thrones) said " I did not take this city to preside over the injustice I fought to destroy. I took it to bring people freedom. But freedom means making your own choices."
Our leaders fought for 100 years and got us freedom. But have we really gained it? Are we able to make our own choices?
There are numerous rules and regulations in our system, that we don't even realize they are controlling the choices we make. Dan Ariely, a professor at Duke university, in a lecture on irrational behavior, explains how, numerous factors influence our choices and how we are manipulated to make a particular choice. He explains how we are fooled into thinking we have the power to choose when we actually have only one option. But we try so hard to prove, to justify our decision and deceive ourselves. He talks about marketing tactics in the lecture. But the truth of it applies to everything in life. We are all victims of such manipulations.
Right from our childhood we are taught to behave "properly", we are taught "manners". We are taught to sit, stand , eat and talk in a particular way and we all follow them blindly. We never stop to ask "why?". Because these are simple things, everyday activities, just common sense! The word common sense has meaning only when people think for themselves and majority arrive at the same result based on their own rationality. Common sense is not something that everyone does. These small simple things are what will form the basics of what we are. We will be defined by what we build on these basics. To have an absolute reality, to make practicality and reality mean one and the same we must start with rationalizing these simple basic activities in life.
If we muster the courage to look, we would find everything about us, our attributes , our behavior already defined. We have to break them. We have to set ourselves free of the predefined standards.I'm not against rules, In-fact,rules are very important. But those should be developed by the individuals rationally, based on their own reality, for themselves.
We have to fight to break the walls of illusion and make freedom a reality!
